NYC National Parks Offer Glimpse of History

If you’re considering a vacation in New York, planning ahead is really the only way to go. There’s simply so many things to both see and do that you have to possess at least a basic notion of how you wish to spend your time before you are able to begin. New York is one of the best cities in the world, and it did not get that way for no reason and it features a long history which is a huge part of its greatness.

If I were to select the way to use my time within New York and what incredible things regarding New York City to introduce my children to, I would opt to introduce them to those things that held the most significance historically. I would wish my children to understand the past of our country whether good or bad and I wish them to someday instill in their own children the critical nature of that history.

By going to the national parks initially, I am able to enjoy the benefits of their cost because free is great nearly anyway you slice it, specifically when both you as well as your kids are getting an education. Ellis Island is a wonderful area to visit, but I believe I’ll present them the statue from afar instead of taking the ferry ride out there. There’s simply so much to do in New York and each and every second is important, however I want them to experience an excellent time as much as I want them to get a few wonderful insights. Insights which they may share with their friends at school as well (something besides the newest Game Cube game which is coming out soon).

Some of the essential parks I would like to take my kids to are: Federal Hall, in which George Washington was sworn in, Grant’s Tomb, Theodore Roosevelt’s Birthplace, and Clinton Castle, that was created in order to keep invaders out. I would additionally love to bring them to Saint Paul’s Church, although not for religious purposes, simply for Religious freedom reasons. I believe there is an important lesson to be taught there even now, maybe especially today.

I think the lessons that may be taught regarding the history of our nation in NYC are just as essential as those lessons which may learned in Washington or Philadelphia. Our nation has come far along the road to democracy and we’ve fallen a couple of times on our way. There never would have been the Witch trials in Salem, the Civil War, or the Civil Rights Movement, although we’ve come so far and still have so far to go. I wish for my kids to learn the lessons of our past history and to look toward the future with anticipation.

I believe those are the lessons we can learn from our state parks and these are a lot more important than any lesson we could pick up within toy stores or by tossing a Frisbee in Central Park. I want my kids to visit museums and toy stores and see new cultures, I also wish for them to take to their home with a good notion of the past of this special country.
